Permit applications are now available for the 2008 Illinois Youth Either-Sex Deer Hunt scheduled for Oct. 11-12. Random daily drawings will be held up to the last day to apply, which is Sept. 19. A random daily drawing means all applications from one day are randomly processed before applications from the next day are randomly processed. All applications for the Youth Either-Sex Deer Permit program must now be made via the Internet at www.dnr.state.il.us. Paper applications are no longer available. The fee for a Youth Deer Permit is $10. The application contains edit checks to minimize potential application errors and issues a receipt. There is a nonrefundable handling fee for each transaction. Payment of fees is by credit card only. Permits are not transferable, and no refunds will be made unless your county choice is not available. A permit allows the holder to hunt with either a shotgun or a muzzleloader (20 gauge or larger shotgun, or muzzleloader of 45 caliber or larger. Permits issued for the Youth Deer Hunt will not be counted in the number of gun permits a person can receive for the Firearm and Muzzleloader Only Deer Season. All participating youths must have completed an IDNR-approved Hunter Education course. All youth hunters must have a current, valid Youth Deer Permit and have a hunting license, unless exempt. Each Youth Deer permit holder is required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian or a responsible adult who possesses a valid Firearm Owners Identification Card.
